I spent an entire day reading Peanut. Loved this book! I think the perspective and the sense that it is written in real time, almost a train-of-thought perspective makes it really compelling. Danny Gregory is honest about his feelings and inadequacies during (and after) the pregnancy. It really captures what first time parents go through. I liked how he pulled family threads through the story.
There are lots of books about what to expect during pregnancy. This one stands out because it is about one man's inner experience during his wife's pregnancy. Is it just for guys? No! Although one of its most impressive features is how deliberate Danny Gregory takes responsibility as a father right from the start, and would give food for thought to new expectant fathers (and even the experienced ones).
I knew there just had to be men like Danny Gregory out there and I am so happy that I found him and spent time walking through his world as he is about to become a father. I laughed and I cried but most amazing was how this book helped me understand people and events in my own life. His book was like reading his personal diary and kept me feeling a little guilty but deliciously intranced at the same time. It brings to mind what my art teacher constantly preached K.I.S.S. - keep it simple stupid. In it's simplicity it becomes amazingly profound. I will read this book again.
